While New York City is located in the very south-east of the state, the border in the north-west actually meets the border of Canada. When William Penn, the founder of Philadelphia had to make the choice of a good name for his new city, he put a lot of thinking into it. He finally made a wise choice and combined the Greek words for love (phileo) and brother (adelphos), which came out to Philadelphia. That is also the reason why the city is known as "the city of brotherly love".
Located right by the Delaware River next to the border to New Jersey, Philadelphia is the five largest city of the US and has a lot of interesting and fun things to offer. Therefore, a city tour from New York to Philadelphia is worth a 2 hour bus ride down south. While being in the area, one should also take the chance to stop in Lancaster, the home of the Amish which is located about an hour west of Philadelphia.
Bus tour excursion to Washington, DC - The Capital of the US
The home of the White House is located at the east cost of the US. DC, which stands for Districts of Columbia is not a state, but is stated right underneath the Congress of the United States, which makes it the most important city in the US. Millions of visitors every year travel to this city, to discover where Barack Obama and his family live, where the most important political decisions are made and what it simply feels like to walk the streets of the capital of the US. Staying in the state of New York does not always mean skyscrapers and crowded streets. The Hamptons are several little villages located at the east end of Long Island. Beautiful beaches right by the ocean reach out over several miles along the Atlantic. Truth to be told - it ist highly recommended to head on a day trip to the Hamptons as it's a must-to activity when travelling New York's surroundings.
