My name is Alexandra Edwards and I am a certified tour guide, living and working on Rapa Nui, better known as Easter Island, for over 18 years.
Active in following categories: Easter Island
I am a researcher at the Pacific Islands Research Institute [PIRI] and co-author of the book When the Universe was an Island: Exploring the Cultural and Spiritual Cosmos of Ancient Rapa Nui, a comprehensive volume about the ethnography, mythology, and history of Rapa Nui (www.universeisland.com).
I have been carrying out archaeological fieldwork and ethnographic studies in the South Pacific since the 1990s, when I returned home to Rapa Nui and to my father, one of the foremost Polynesian Culture experts.
Originally a Latin-American Studies and Film major from Wesleyan University, I have participated in four Explorer’s Club Flag expeditions and contributed to several documentary projects carried out by National Geographic, BBC, and CNBC Canada, in places as diverse as Rapa Nui, Raivavae, Papua New Guinea, and the Society and Marquesas Islands.
In September 2014 I was featured in the BBC documentary "Treasures of Easter Island" part of the highly-acclaimed international documentary series called "Treasures Decoded," also aired in the Discovery and Smithsonian channels.
I am completely bilingual in English and Spanish, and am highly proficient in French. I complement my work at the foundation conducting private tours and lecturing aboard expedition cruise ships about my favorite part of the world, Polynesia.
