Description

Kakheti is located in the east part of the country and in comparison with all other administrative regions occupies the greatest space. Especially Kakheti is famous for variety of vineyards and the semi-desert located here.

On this tour we will visit the Bodbe monastery of Saint Nino. Sacred Nino, who converted Georgians to Christianity, was sent to the Bodbi gorge in Kakheti where he died in 338-340. Here still flows a healing water which arose thanks to st. Nino. Poe to command of the king of Georgia Mirian III (284-361), near her grave the small monastery was constructed.

The monastery got importance at the time of the late Middle Ages. Especially he was esteemed by the kings of Kakheti who have elected as Bodbe as a place of the crowning. Ruined by the Persian Shah Abbas I armies in the 1615th year, the Bodbi monastery was restored by the Kakhetian King Taimuraz the Ist (1605-1648). With revival of monastic life in Bodbe the theological school was opened. The monastery also was one of the largest storage of religious books, was the house for several religious authors and copyists.

Another highlight of the tour will be Signagi – “The love city”. In Signagi we will visit a local wine cellar called as "Pheasant’s tears" where we will test 4 wine brands and Chacha (Georgian vodka) with bread and cheese. Then we go to Tibaani's nearby village where also we will visit a family cellar and we will try wine and Chacha. In the same place we will have a dinner and return to Signagi. In Signagi and in its surroundings there are many historical and cultural monuments.

The city is under special protection of the government from 1975th year. It is surrounded with oddments of a fortification of the 18th. In it 2 Georgian orthodox churches are located there – one is devoted to St. Georgi, and another – to the Saint Stefan. There are the ethnographic and archaeological museums founded in the 1950th. In the 2007th they were updated and now represent the Signagi’s museum answering to the modern standards.

In the village Tsinandali we will visit a house museum of the prince Alexander Chavchavadze with a beautiful garden and a wine cellar where we taste 5 brands of wine. Alexander Chavchavadze built the new Italian palace and created a decorative garden in 1835. Familiar with the European technologies, Chavchavadze constructed the most aged and largest winery of Georgia where he united centuries-old European and Georgian traditions of wine making.

At the end of round we come back to Tbilisi through the city of Kvareli. The Kvareli's mountains and other beauties were sung by many poets and novelists.
