Your experience

  • Experience a truely Ugandan experience
  • Learn about the culture, tradition, cooking and social life
  • Take a bicycle and visit the village of Ttanda
  • Visit a local school
  • Walk through a tropical rain forest
  • and many more activities are waiting for you....

We will leave Kampala for the Ttanda Archeological and cultural site. This is the home to the legendary Walumbe (god of death), brother to Nambi and in-law to Kintu, the first Baganda family. Here you’ll see up to 240 footprints of Walumbe as he was being pursued by Kayikuuzi for causing trouble among the local people.

Ttanda is in itself a symbol of the biblical foreign angels, and is a worship centre for people seeking divine blessings! You’ll meet dozens of such people at the site, including some of Kampala’s most wealthy personalities.

We will then continue to Kijjude Village through beautiful sceneries covered in green natural vegetation with expansive tea plantations. You can walk through a natural tropical rain forest and enjoy the frsh air.

Afterwards we will reach the hunter’s community and be welcomed with organic sweet bananas (ndiizi), fresh jackfruit right from the trees, sugar canes, guavas, mangoes, local pineapples, and fresh maize from the garden. You can enter the gardens and harvest for yourself.

If you want to go back to your childhood you can swing on a tightly tied rope (on a tree) and enjoy the fresh air.

Or you can take a bicycle ride through the villages and along tea plantations and forests. This fun activity will also teach you about transportation in Uganda.

After a short rest the women will be accompanied by the senga (auntie) to the “bush” to learn about bedroom matters. The senior senga will share her secret for a happy marriage and furthermore she will show you how to prepare luwombo, how to use local herbs to treat sick people, and how to manage a home in a typical kiganda tradition.

Meanwhile, the kojja (uncle) will be narrating his marriage experiences to the gentlemen, and providing tips on how to keep a home happy. The senior kojja was raised in a typical kiganda style, wearing and using barkcloth as bedroom blanket. He will teach you how to make barkcloth.

At lunch, you will be served with a luwombo, the same way it was served to John Speke when he visited Buganda in 1858. Because you will be a visitor, food preparation will be done early and it will be on fire by 6:00Am and will be left steaming all day until dining time.

You will eat your meal in a traditional way i.e. sitting on mats and eating with your fingers.

After a delicious meal the leader of the Hunter's Community will teach you about the hunting experience and the purpose of hunting.
On your way you can enjoy the sounds of hundreds of bird species and butterflies. You will experience the whole process: the animal will be identified but not killed, or even touched. The idea is for you to see what transpires during traditional hunting and your payment will compensate the cost of abandoning hunting, giving wild animals another chance to live.

If you choose not to go hunting, you will accompany ladies to the natural spring well or to the gardens to harvest food for dinner. You will hear about harvesting sweet potatoes, bananas, cassava and any food that will be harvested on the day.

You may also join the herdsmen for the afternoon animal grazing, and later on milking the cows together.

Another great experience is to spend some time at a local primary school to interact with school children and teachers to experience and learn about children education in rural Uganda.

You may also wish to visit a nearby tea factory to learn about tea processing.

Return late in the evening through a maize garden to harvest some maize to take home for your loved ones (if you visit before 20th December). You may also pick some sugar canes and bananas.
