From January 1st, 2019, the Municipality of Rome decided to take an important step forward to protect the enormous historical heritage and towards the ecology of the City: only taxis and local buses are now allowed in the city centre. In the wake of these improvements our company developed some brand new fantastic itineraries. This amazing full day tour will guide you through the world-famous streets of Rome, popular since the age of the Ancient Romans. Enter the smallest but yet the most notorious indipendent state of the world, The Vatican City, do a breath-taking panoramic tour along the river Tiber, the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus and do a wonderful promenade from Venice Square, where the Altar of the Fatherland stands, to the Trevi Foutain, the Pantheon and Navona Square.
Our excursion starts from the little city of Civitavecchia, one of the most important port of the Mediterranean, at 9:30/40 am. After around 1h15 ride, your bus will stop near the Tiber in Via Lungotevere Marzio “Zanardelli”, accross Ponte Umberto I bridge situated right in front of the Justice Palace, also called from the romans as “Palazzaccio”. After crossing the bridge and passing under the rastle of the tipical white willow along the river, your tour leader will lead you at the bottom of Castle St. Angel listening to the music of the street performers and looking at the beautiful sight of Via della Conciliazione leading to St. Peters Square, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini from 1656 to 1667, St. Peters Basilica*, the largest church in the world, and its famous Dome, the tallest in the whole world (448.1 ft). (1h5 stop)
Afterwards, your tour leader will narrate you the history of Rome while you will be driven with the bus for a panoramic ride along the streets near the Tiber, the main watercourse of Rome since it was founded on the 753 BCE by Romulus and Remus, the two twins suckled by a she-wolf as stated by the myth, and cross it near the 890 ft long and 220 ft wide Tiberine Island, see the Pyramid of Cestius, the Gaius Cestious’ tomb incorporated in the fortifications of the city, the second largest Roman baths called Baths of Caracalla, admire the Papal Archbasilica of St. John in Lateran and the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. Continue the ride on the bus towards the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built and the symbol of Rome, the Circus Maximus the ancient Roman chariot racing situated in the call of the Aventine and the Palatine Hill and pass in front of the Mouth of Truth, attracting each day people waiting in line to put their hand in the mouth to let it tell their future.
At the end of this amazing panoramic ride, you will stop in Via Petroselli, near the Theatre of Marcellus. Start the incredible walking tour with your tour leader admiring the famous Theatre of Marcellus, situated in the rione of Sant’Angelo where 20,000 spectators could see tipical performances of drama and song. Reach the Capitoline Hill, see the beautiful Cordonata that leads to Piazza del Campidoglio where the Capitol of the city stands, and arrive at Venice Square. Be amazed by the imponent Altar of the Fatherland, built in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy and look at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and its eternal flame, built under the statue of goddess Roma after the World War I. Then again observe the Traian’s Forum, the last of the Imperial Fora to be constructed during the ancient Rome after the conquest of Dacia by the will of the Emperor after whom the Forum is named. Continue the walking tour with your tour leader until the most marvelous Baroque fountain in the world, the Trevi Fountain, to throw with the right hand a coin in it that will assure you to come back to the Capital. Once arrived at the Trevi Fountain, you will have free time for lunch and to do a relaxing promenade in the quaint streets of the city centre up to the Pantheon, the amazing Roman Temple with the central oculus as the main souce of natural light built from the 113 to the 125 AD on the ashes of the burned down Agrippa’s temple, and to the baroque Navona Square, built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian: admire the Foutain of the Four Rivers with the Egyptian obelisk in its centre and the two other fountains, the Moor Fountain at the southern end and the Fountain of Neptune at the northern end.
At the end of this exciting day trip, your bus will be waiting for you, in the very first drop off point of the morning in Via Lungotevere Marzio “Zanardelli” near the Tiber at 4.30 pm, on the right side of the bridge Ponte Umberto I situated right in front of the Justice Palace.

Sehr geehrte Frau Sabrina,
Mif freundlichem Gruss,
Civitatours Team Civitavecchia
