Description

In the north of Laos lies between dense standing trees and at the river Mekong the city Luang Prabang. This city and the surroundings are characterized by many historical events, such as the kingdom of Lan Xang or the European Colonialisation. The Asian culture is also present at many spots.

After your breakfast you will be picked up by your tour guide. Then you will go to the riverbank of the 4350 km long Mekong, where you will enter a boat. You'll swim along the river past the rural area of Laos and enjoy the pretty sight, which will be offered to you. At the point, where the rivers Mekong and Nam Ou meet, you will find the Pak Ou caves.

The lower of the two caves is called Tham Ting, and the upper Tham Theung and inside of both caves you will find uncountable holy Buddha sculptures. These sculptures are from different decades and therefore show some antique traces. They are made of clay or carved out of wood and they come in different shapes and different positions. Outside at the entrance to the caves you have the opportunity to buy some sacrifices in honor of the Buddha. The walls of the caves are also decorated with Buddha figures. These paintings, among others, are made out of beatgold.

After you have had enough time to discover the caves, you will continue your tour down the river. There you will pass by a village, which is known for the production of rice wine. Then you will visit another village, the Ban Phanom. The locals are famous for the traditional Laotian weaving of silk and cotton. In the evening, you will go back to Luang Prabang and to your hotel.
