Your experience

  • Pak Ou Caves
  • Rice wine production
  • Visit of the village known for its weaving mill

In the north of Laos, the city of Luang Prabang lies between densely planted trees and on the Mekong River. They and the surrounding area are marked by many historical events, such as the Kingdom of Lan Xang or the European occupation. But also the Asian culture can be found there in many places. This also applies to the river bank of the Mekong, which you will explore on this tour.

You will be picked up at your hotel by your tour guide after breakfast. Afterwards you will set off together to the riverbank of the 4350 km long Mekong, where you will board a boat. You will swim along the river past the rural environment of Laos and enjoy the view that is offered to you. At the place where the two rivers Mekong and Nam Ou meet, you will find the Pak Ou caves

The lower of the two caves is called Tham Ting, the upper Tham Theung and inside both caves there are countless sacred Buddha sculptures. These sculptures are from different decades and therefore show some antique traces. They are made of clay or carved out of wood and can be found in different sizes and positions. In front of the entrances to the caves you can buy offerings in honour of the Buddha and lay them down inside. The walls of the caves are also decorated with Buddha figures. These paintings are among other things also provided with gold leaf.

After you have had enough time to explore the caves extensively, you will continue by boat downstream. There you pass a village which is known for the production of rice wine. Afterwards you will visit a small tribal village, the Ban Phanom. The locals are famous for the traditional Lao weaving of silk and cotton. There you can buy as a souvenir a traditional handmade garment, which is very unique. In the evening you drive back to Luang Prabang and to your hotel.
