This tour about Hamburgs new UNESCO World Heritage Site is a really great opportunity to get in touch with the German World Trading end of 19th century. Our guide Tilman presented us amazing architecture from the 20th in Kontorhausviertel, beautiful staircases and unexpected details. Speicherstadt with its brick gothic warehouses is really unique, I never have seen something similar before. Second half of the tour was about important trading goods of these times, coffee, tea, oriental carpets. The best was that we were able to really sense these products, a little coffee tasting included. Tilman was very pleasant, full of knowledge about the history of this area and conveyed everything in an easygoing and funny way. Not boring for a single second.

What a great tour! We started at the Chile House getting lots of good informations from our very likeable guide Tilman. The first part of the tour is about architecture and function of this special area (Speicherstadt and Kontorhouse quarter). The second part is about the products which have been stored at Speicherstadt: coffee, tea and Oriental rugs (carpets). You get to visit a tea house, a coffee rostery (with coffee tasting!) and an carpet warehouse. A full experience for your mind as well as your senses of smelling, tasting and feeling. Thanks a lot!

On our 2 and a half hour tour through the Hamburg Speicherstadt we will discover the largest warehouse complex in the world. You will see extraordinary buildings of the UNESCO World-Heritage site like, for example, the Chilehaus. In the office building district (in fact the oldest and first in Europe) you will delve into the times when trade in Hamburg brought this port city to the world´s stage. We start in the inner courtyard of the Chilehaus (You will notice your professional guide holding a yellow umbrella) and will begin with impressive views of the office building district (Kontorhausviertel), the office district of the rich shipping owners. You will learn of important architects like Fritz Schumacher and Fritz Höger that developed an exceptional style in the 1920´s called Brick-Expressionism. You will get a deep insight into their impressive work. We will show typical staircases, richly decorated fassades and magnificent innerarchitectur. then we will cross the Zollkanal (customs-canal) and dive into a unique world of the old harbour. You will experience: how the old-warehouse district was constructed, how it has developed today and why it became a UNESCO World-Heritage in 2015. You will become an idea of how the area in 130 years has changed from being the urban city to harbour area and then into the new Hafencity development urban city district again. All of your senses will be engaged when we delve into the inner-heart of the old warehouses. In a small break we will invite you to enjoy a cup of fine tea or coffee on the original storage and processing places in the historic warehouses. We will take a glimpse at the old coffee-exchange where even as late as the 1960´s coffee prices where directed directly per telephone to the New York Stock Exchange. The crowning end of the tour will take us to a persian rug warehouse. Here you will learn the different feel of wool and silk rugs running in between your fingers and can enjoy some of the finest hand-knotted rugs in the world. Our UNESCO World Heritage Tour is ideal as a private tour for families, company-events, group excursions, etc...
