We are very satisfied and can recommend without reservation! It was really an interesting, entertaining and very informative tour. Our travel guide was very competent, well read and answered our questions wonderfully. Thank you very much for that!

great

Absolutely recommendable! Did the tour with our teenagers and are enthusiastic about how entertaining and exciting Thomas has told us Lisbon's history!

great

Best guide we ever had. We were not only guided to the most beautiful and interesting places and sights, but also introduced to the lifestyles of local Portuguese people and provided with knowledge about architecture, art and history, which even with days of googling you cannot acquire yourself. In addition, we could ask any question to which our guide could give a detailed and interesting answer. If we had stayed even longer, we would have booked more tours

My husband and I did the tour on 19.11. with Thomas. Also we had the luck on a private tour. I have rarely seen a travel guide who has such an extensive historical knowledge, which is transmitted with a lot of passion. He really had well-founded answers to all questions (and we had many). The time (far more than the scheduled 3 hours) has passed like in flight. Afterwards we were exhausted by the knowledge and the very interesting tour. He has also completely responded to our wishes and has led us partly to places where I have not seen any other tourists. I can only recommend Thomas. For me grade 1 with 3 stars... Greetings from Regina and Carsten

To our great surprise, the booked group tour through the old town turned out to be a private tour. Thomas inquired about our wishes and it became a very competent and intensive almost four-hour tour. Filled with entertaining interludes, we were introduced to the history of Portugal and Lisbon and also art and architecture were given their place. We were able to gather many impressions that would have escaped us in other ways. The gastronomy recommendations were also top. Anytime again Thomas.

i booked this tour because it was done in German. Thomas showed us many beautiful places and told us a lot about the history of Portugal. We also received many tips that were not in our travel guide. I would recommend the tour.

Highlights

  • See all the highlights of Lisbon's oldest district, Alfama, and experience the eventful history of Romans, Moors, Germans and Portuguese around this famous hill of the city
  • The Alfama is the perfect place to dive deep into the history of Lisbon

Description

From the meeting point at the Praça do Comércio, the tour starts with explanations of this magnificent square. Afterwards we will go on a little journey through time. Palaces, churches, living for more than 2000 years. Various sights line the winding path through the most beautiful parts of the quarter. Wonderful views, romantic nooks and the staircase of the Alfama.

Largo das Portas de Sol with the statue of the city saint São Vicente. To the only bigger palace of the Alfama, the Palácio do Conde dos Arcos, on the Largo do Salvador, the path leads through the typical maze of streets of the Alfama

The path leads you over the Largo de São Rafael with its tower and the old city wall. Only the name still reminds us of the coexistence of the Moors with the Jewish community in the heyday of the Middle Ages. The Gothic windows give an aristocratic tone to the houses in this street

Through the Arco do Rosario one gets to the oldest public fountain of Lisbon, there are even more exciting stories and history to learn.

Through the lively Rua de São Pedro, which almost has the character of a main street of the quarter, we go to the Largo do Chafariz de Dentro, which in a way forms the entrance of the Alfama. The House of Columns is particularly striking here with its special history.

To new heights. Via the Rua dos Remédios we go to the hill of Santo Estêvão (Saint Stephen) and thus to the more noble part of the quarter. The tour leads through a quiet park to Largo Santo Estêvão with its magnificent view

Following the tram tracks, the path leads to the church Igreja de São Vicente de Fora. It has a "model character" - you will find out what this means on the spot. Right next to the church is the entrance to Campo de Santa Clara. In its centre is a market hall, the Mercado Municipal de Santa Clara. With the daily grocery market and the flea market (Tuesdays and Saturdays) a lively multi-facetted place that you must have seen.

On the side of the square is the church Igreja de Santa Engrácia, now the state pantheon - find out why this is the epitome of things that will never be finished.

Steeply downhill to Largo dos Caminhos de Ferro, where the military museum is located. On the other side is the long-distance train station Santa Apolónia. Here the tour ends.

During the evening tour the path now leads to one of the most famous fado clubs "Clube de Fado", which has written music history. Here you can enjoy a delicious dinner and pure music - from funny to melancholic - goosebumps feeling included
