  • Visit the Church of Nativity and various other holy places
  • See the Mount of Temptation

Description

Trace back the footsteps of Jesus and visit some of the holiest places in Christendom. You will start your excursion from your hotel in Tel Aviv. During your drive towards the Dead Sea, you will pass by the Inn of the Good Samaritian. The site served as a hostel along the ancient road from Jericho to Jerusalem and was converted into an archaeological museum. After a short stop at the sea level marker, you will continue your way to Jericho. Jericho is considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, dating back more than 11,000 years.

Northwest of Jericho, the hillside of Qarantal plays an important role in Christian tradition. You will be able to see the Mount of Temptation, where Jesus Christ fasted after being baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Then travel to Bethlehem to explore the birthplace of Jesus. Stroll along Manger Square and make your way to the Church of Nativity. People have believed that the place where the Church of the Nativity now stands is where Jesus was born, therefore this place is one of the holiest places in Christendom. Be amazed by the elaborate floor mosaics.

Pay a visit to St. Jerome's Cave, located right beneath the Church of Nativity and see the place where the Hebrew bible was translated into Latin by St. Jerome. Then tour the Church of St. Catherine which is said to be built on the site of Christ's appearance to St. Catherine of Alexandria and his prediction of her martyrdom. Continue your way to the Milk Grotto. With a chapel built above it, the grotto is considered sacred because tradition has it that the Holy Family took refuge here before their flight into Egypt. After visiting the Shephard's Fields, you will start your journey back to your hotel in Tel Aviv.
