Your experience

  • Visit the four most famous castles in the Loire Valley: the Chenonceau Castle, the Chambord Castle, the "Royal Château of Amboise" and the Château du Clos Lucé
  • See original sketches and models of the sculptor Leonardo Da Vinci

This tour focuses on visiting some of the many castles in the Loire Valley

The first destination is the "Castle of Six Ladies". This is a Renaissance-style castle, also called Chenonceau Castle, which has always been owned by women: Katherine Briçonnet had it built in 1513 and it was subsequently enlarged, decorated and embellished by Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Medici and Madame Dupin. The 70 hectare park created by the women, which is laid out around the castle, is home to an abundance of plants and flowers. These have to be renewed at great expense twice a year, in spring as well as in summer, as there are about 130,000 plants. No murder or similar brutal event occurs in the history of this castle, but it is peppered with intrigue

The next building you will visit on your tour is the largest castle in the Loire- Valley: the Chambord Castle. This is also in the Renaissance style and measures 156 metres in length and 56 metres in height. It has 426 rooms and halls (90 of which are open to the public), 282 fireplaces and 77 stairs. The construction of the castle was started by Francis I in 1519, with the aim of combining the traditional French and Italian Renaissance styles. One of the most remarkable elements of Chambord Castle is its famous double flight of stairs, which with carved ornaments is considered a Renaissance masterpiece. It consists of two intersecting spiral staircases.

The third castle you will visit on the day of your trip is the Royal Château of Amboise. The first thing you will notice here is the gigantic stone wall of the medieval castle, completed in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Royal Château of Amboise was a popular residence of the royal families of the time.

Furthermore you will have the pleasure to visit the castle "Clos Lucé". It was here that the famous sculptor Leonardo Da Vinci spent the last three years of his life, making the area widely known and famous. It was King Francis I who put the castle at Da Vinci's disposal from 1516. The sculptor died here on 02 May 1519 at the age of 67. During your visit to the premises of the "Château du Clos Lucé" you will have the opportunity to see the last sketches of the artist. Among them are models of a helicopter, a revolving bridge, a tank, a rowing boat, a machine gun and a model of a water wheel.
