Description

During this city tour, discover the places in Havana that tell the story of the slaves in Cuba. The tour first takes you to the Asociación Yoruba, a museum about the Santería religion, which was founded by the African slaves in Cuba. Here you can see relics and statues of the Afro-Cuban deities, the so-called "orishas", and if you are lucky you may even attend a Santería ritual. Your guide will also take you to the Casa de Africa in the old town of Havana. The exhibition in this museum contains pieces from 27 different African countries and is based on a collection by the researcher Fernando Ortiz and the collection of African art works by Fidel Castro. The Casa de Africa also offers researchers, ethnologists, linguists and students of Afro-Cuban history an opportunity to present their research results

Another destination of the city tour is the church Iglesia de Regla. It houses the Virgen de Regla, a black Madonna that is also associated with the Santería religion. Afterwards, in Callejon de Hamel, a street in the heart of Havana, you can admire colourful murals and decorations and listen to the rhythms of Afro-Cuban music.

If you would also like to rent a car, your guide will take you to the Guanabacoa district, one of the oldest parts of Havana and especially famous for the traditions of the Santería religion, which was founded by the African slaves in Cuba. The district forms a historic centre of African culture in Havana and houses a museum that illustrates the influences of African culture on Cuba.
