  • Taste local delicacies and let yourself be captivated by this fascinating region

Description

Discover the hidden places of Chiang Mai on this relaxing, cultural and educational half-day tour. Take secluded paths and see places where old traditions live on.

The route takes you along quiet and green country roads past the historic settlement of Wiang Kum Kam, founded by King Mengrai in 1286. Here, you will visit impressive ruins that date back hundreds of years. During a stopover at a temple, your guide will tell you interesting facts about construction and Buddhism in general. You will also visit a former leper colony that was once cut off from the outside world and now serves as a rehabilitation center for people with many types of physical disabilities.

Then, you continue the bicycle tour and see an elementary school, which is mainly attended by mountain dwellers. Also, the ancient Lanna Empire produced some of the best ceramics ever made. Even today, the northern region is the most important centre of the Thai ceramics industry. Immerse yourself in the art of this craft in a small pottery and observe how the craftsmen make various forms of pottery by hand.

Then drive along the Ping River and enjoy the unique atmosphere that makes Chiang Mai so special. In a local bakery you will taste a sweet roll while watching the staff produce other products. Stroll around the local market and take the opportunity to taste some of the most delicious and exotic fruits and other snacks. Halfway through the tour, a small Thai menu (Khao Soy Kai) will be served in a local restaurant for refreshment.
