Your experience

  • Visit the cathedral of San Valentino
  • Discover a historic palace in the old town
  • Visit the "Torrione Angioino", testimony of the defensive system of the city

Your tour starts at the gate of Baresana, where you will meet your private tour guide. Here you will also directly encounter the first sight of the city, the "Torrione Angioino". The largest of the 28 towers along the former city walls of Bitonto measures 24 metres and has a diameter of 16 metres. The structure of the 14th century watchtower is still particularly well preserved and the moat and rampart are now also exposed. See this testimony of defense strategy in early times

The tour continues to the city centre with the Cathedral of San Valentino, one of the most important ecclesiastical buildings in Puglia, built in a beautiful Romanesque style. The Cathedral of Bitonto is one of the best examples of one of the oldest Christian cathedrals in Italy. Built in the 12th century, the simple Romanesque building was already then a successful change from the magnificent Baroque churches that are predominantly found in other places in Italy. The crypt should not be forgotten! A tile is kept here that depicts a Griffin, a creature from early legends. This archaeological discovery allows conclusions to be drawn about the development of Christianity in the 12th century.

The tour ends with a visit to the palace of Sylos Calò, a historical building from the 16th century in the late Renaissance style. With vaulted ceilings, a veranda over two levels and pillars, this imposing building has a lot to offer. The former seat of the nobility has been home to the National Gallery of Puglia since 2009. Admire 166 paintings by Italy's most famous artists from the last 500 years

Afterwards, discover the enchanting romantic old town with its small, narrow alleys on your own and enjoy the gastronomy with the typical Apulian cuisine, which is especially famous for its extra virgin olive oil.
