Your experience

  • See the Roman columns, the end point of the Via Appia
  • Discover the old city including the remains of the Romans and from the Middle Ages
  • Visit the Granafei-Nervegna Palace

Where today the paths of fishing cutters and cruise ships intersect, once important trade and history took place. Discover the historically valuable city of Brindisi in the east of Itlaia.

Your tour starts on the coast of Brindisi, where you can already admire the many columns that remind us of Roman times. The symbols of the city mark the end of the famous Via Appia, the economically and strategically most important road of the Roman Empire. From here you can also see the monument of the Italian sailors. The well-developed port facilities of Brindisi were used for military purposes during the First World War. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of all seafarers who lost their lives. Until today the city is the base of the Italian navy

On foot, we continue to Piazza Duomo, which is decorated with numerous monuments. Here is also the church of John the Baptist, an important pilgrimage site of the Middle Ages. During a visit you will not only see the magnificent interior of the basilica, but also the residence of the bishop and the palace of the convict.

The tour continues with a visit to the archaeological museum "Provinciale Francesco Ribezzo", where numerous antiques are exhibited and you can learn all about Brindisi's past. Finally, you will come to the Granafei-Nervegna Palace, a magnificent Renaissance building with Baroque elements. The palace still houses the mighty and original capital, the upper end, the Appiasaeule. At night, this special building of the city is illuminated by soft lights. Finish the tour with a beautiful view over the harbour.

During the whole time you can enjoy a trained guide especially for your private group. He will give you background information on the history of Brindisi, tell you anecdotes and answer all your questions. This tour takes about 2 hours.
