Your experience

  • Marvel at the high Atlas Mountains and cross the famous Tizi N'tichka Pass
  • Visit the Kasbah of Telouet and Ait Benhaddou and learn about the ancient splendour of architecture
  • Enjoy the panorama of the sights

The day trip to Ait Ben Haddou and the Kasbah of Telouet gives you the opportunity to get to know the best of the south, learn more about the Glaoui tribes and visit the most famous Kasbah in Morocco. Cross the Atlas Mountains and head for the Sahara Desert and the old caravan routes.

Pass the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, one of the most dramatic passes in Morocco. Along the way you can see Berber villages scattered along the sides of the mountain and sometimes difficult to distinguish from the rock. Once you reach the far side of the mountains, the landscape changes drastically and becomes dry and desert-like, as the chain of the Atlas Mountains acts as a barrier, separating the rest from the Mediterranean climate.

After the Tichka Pass you leave the main road and take a side path to the Telouet Kasbah, which belongs to the Pasha of the Atlas, the Glaoui. But the Kasbah is a ruin since the last Pasha left the country to flee from the French army. The first kasbah you visit has only some rooms accessible to you, as the rest of the rooms are in danger of collapsing. The tiled walls, grooved pillars, the beautifully painted wooden ceilings and windows of the reception rooms give you the opportunity to imagine the early splendour.

From there you will arrive for lunch at Ait Ben Haddou. Once in the village you will get a closer look at the architecture of the Kasbah with turrets on all the buildings, decorated with grooved windows and walls, in a soft peach tone These traditional houses are made of air-dried mud bricks, perfectly suited for the weather conditions of the south and the mountain peaks.

You will spend the afternoon exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. This is the most famous Kasbah of Morocco, mainly because of its presence in many Hollywood movies. It was one of the most important fortresses on the old salt route of the caravans, where slaves, gold, ivory and salt were traded

Before you leave Ait Benhaddou, take a last look at the village from a distant vantage point, which offers you a wonderful panorama, especially when the sky is clear.
