Description

Join an exciting mountain bike tour along the ancient Appian Way and the Aqueducts Park. Travel back in time and learn more about life in ancient Rome. The Appian Way was Europe’s first highway and connected Rome with Capua and other important settlements. It was a crucial road for the Roman Empire and was the longest and widest road in existence at the time. Visit the Baths of Caracalla which can be found along the ancient Appian Way. The Roman thermal baths are some of the best preserved ancient buildings of the Roman times and once were Rome’s second largest public baths.

Then continue your way to the Gate of St. Sebastian, the biggest gate of the Aurelian Walls. Pass by the catacombs of Rome and learn more about their history. Marvel at the ancient structure of Circus Maxentius which is part of a complex of buildings erected by emperor Maxentius on the Via Appia. The ruins are situated between the basilica and catacombs of San Sebastiano and the imposing tomb of Caecilia Metella.

Pay a visit to the mausoleum which was built under the emperor Augustus in honor of Cecilia Metella, the daughter of a Roman consul. Gaze at Villa dei Quintili, the largest Roman villa complex in the suburbs. Let yourself be enchanted by the beautiful countryside, the park’s wildlife and various archaeological sites. Discover the Ninfeo di Egeria and learn more about the legend.
