Day trip from Sofia to see history, spa and wine in Koprivshtitsa and Starosel. See the charming lifestyle of the locals.
Koprivshtitsa (100 km from Sofia) is a good example of the resurgent Bulgarian architecture of the 19th century. The small mountain town played an important role in the national rise of the Bulgarian people under Ottoman rule. The April Uprising against the Turks broke out here in 1876. The wealthy citizens of that time were involved in crafts and trade, and they competed for the construction of beautiful houses with colourful facades, hidden behind high stone walls and heavy wooden gates.
After spending a few hours in this charming town, we continue to the Thracian temple of Starosel and another hour's drive through the Rose Valley. We visit the local winery in Starosel and enjoy the spa centre before returning to Sofia.
