In Lisbon you will find azulejos, colourful ceramic tiles that have been popular since the late Middle Ages, especially in Spain and Portugal. The beautiful azulejos are the result of an art form with a long history in the country, which began during the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. You will start this day trip south of Lisbon in the beautiful Azeitão region, where you will visit the famous Azulejos de Azeitão workshop. Find out how the tiles are produced according to old traditions

After you have learned the basics of the art, you will have the opportunity to paint your own tile, which will later be baked and sent to your hotel in Lisbon or home if you wish (shipping costs not included). After the creative morning it is time for lunch. For a tasty lunch, for example, the fishing village of Sesimbra, which is only a short drive away. Return to Lisbon and admire some of the city's most impressive tile art along the way.

In the afternoon you will visit the beautiful 15th century convent of Madre de Deus, which houses the Azulejo Museum. The interior of the church is a baroque masterpiece, which is considered a total work of art, in which all elements have been designed to form a perfect whole. The museum has an impressive collection of tiles, ranging from the 15th century to contemporary artists, and includes the most important international schools, such as the Spanish and Dutch, as well as some iconic works by Portuguese masters such as Bordalo Pinheiro, Raúl Lino and Maria Keil.
