Description

Discover the history of Portugal on a full day tour of Évora. After a comfortable pick-up from your hotel in Lisbon, you will be on your way to Évora. Explore the charming city in the heart of the Alentejo region and follow the traces of different eras and cultures. Stroll through the city centre, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit places of interest from Roman times to the Renaissance. Go to the Diana Temple, which dates back to the 1st century AD.

We continue to the Renaissance church of St. Francis to visit the Chapel of the Bones (Capela dos Ossos). Marvel at walls covered with human skulls and bones. Walk around the cathedral of Évora and climb up its roof to admire the golden plains of the Alentejo that surround the city. Then leave Évora to visit Villa Romana da Tourega, a Roman villa off the beaten track.

Afterwards you will make your way to Anta Grande do Zambujeiro, the largest known megalithic tomb of the Iberian Peninsula. End the day with a visit to the Almendres Cromlech, 7000 years old and even older than the famous stone circle of Stonehenge. The megalithic complex reveals some of the secrets of ancient civilizations and their knowledge of astronomy. At the end of the day you will be taken back to your hotel.
