Description

The Pergamon Museum is filled with classic sculptures, imposing architecture, colorful tapestries and enough historical artifacts to make a thousand Indiana Jones movies. Highlights include the famous Ishtar Gate, a fragment from the epic poem of Gilgamesh, and the Market Gate of Milete. These skip-the-line tickets take you directly to a museum that is not only one of the best museums on Museum Island, but one of the best in the world.

Berlin's world-famous Pergamon Museum has three major thematic areas: the Collection of Classical Antiquities, the Museum of Islamic Art and the Museum for the Middle East. Each individual collection alone would be enough to justify a visit, but with all three? There directly the reasons have tripled to dive into the Perg (as it is known).

The works come from ancient Greece, Rome, Babylon and the Middle East and show how far advanced these ancient societies were. One highlight is the Ishtar Gate. This light blue glazed brick wall is decorated with the city's gods in the form of dragons, lions and bulls. A stone fragment of the Gilgamesh Epic is an excerpt from one of the oldest works of literature in the world - the story of this hero can be found in the works of Homer and the Bible.

But Pergamon is not about a single piece in its (admittedly huge and varied) collection, but about a visit to the depth and breadth of human history.
