Your experience

Highlights

  • See the famous head of Tiye (one of the most influential women in ancient Egypt) and the bust of Nefertiti
  • A tour of ancient archaeological finds from the stone, ice, iron and bronze ages - a guaranteed history lesson you will remember
  • Learn more about ancient cultures, their everyday life and the art and tools that shaped their worlds, right in the middle of Berlin!

Description

The impressive New Museum on Museum Island was reopened in 2009 after a major restoration and houses the 3,300-year-old bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti - one of the most famous works of antiquity. Take a leap in time and experience the ancient works face to face.

Divide your time here between the two (equally fascinating) permanent exhibitions. The Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection.

Ancient Egyptian and Nubian cultures abound here. Walk through three chambers with jewellery from the Old Empire. Experience the famous head of Tiye (one of the most influential women in ancient Egypt, who probably lived from 1398 BC to 1338 BC) and be enchanted by the famous 3,300-year-old bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti.

The Museum of Pre- and Early History:
Over 6,000 archaeological finds represent life from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. See the Neanderthal man of Le Moustier, view wall paintings with Nordic mythology in the Odin, urn and looted art room and experience the Berlin gold hat - a late Bronze Age headdress made of thin gold leaf dating from 1000-800 BC.
