Description

The name Gaudí is a symbol for Barcelona. The city's favourite architect embodies the style and vitality of a city deeply rooted in its natural environment. This is Barcelona in its lively, playful form.

On this tour, the most complete on Gaudí's works, you will visit three of his residential works, one of which is unknown to most visitors; you will skip the tiresome queuing to explore the beautiful Park Guell; and of course you will begin with a thorough exploration of Gaudí's greatest work and final resting place, La Sagrada Família.

Your tour begins with the first entrance to Casa Batlló, probably Gaudí's most impressive residence. Before the morning crowd, you will discover some of the ingenious solutions that Gaudí used to overcome architectural problems throughout the house by distributing light and air over the many levels. A sure highlight is the roof, which resembles the scales of a dragon - the great symbol of Barcelona.

The best thing about Gaudí was that his work was constantly changing and adapting to the styles and materials of the time. You will see this clearly on our next two visits to his other homes. The first is Casa Mila, known as La Pedrera, or The Quarry. You will understand why when you look at this impressive block. At first sight it may seem a little gloomy, but once you learn how his face was put together and then carefully carved, centimeter by centimeter, you will surely feel different.

The facade of Casa Vincens is a completely different experience. One of Gaudí's earliest works, colourful and extravagant in the exaggerated manner of an architect who is still developing his own style and language

Somewhere in the middle is Park Guell. Part imaginative explosion of colour, part thoughtful study of organic forms, it is a perfect reflection of the natural world. Not least because everything is incredibly functional, with a secret drainage system, visual illusions and stone benches designed for perfect ergonomics. Do not forget to bring a camera, the park is home to the best viewpoint in Barcelona. Since this site became accessible to visitors a few years ago, waiting times have become extremely long - so it's good that you have skip-the-line access.

Your tour ends, like Gaudí himself - in La Sagrada Família. In the last years of the architect's life he gave up all other projects and a large part of his life to work on this magnificent and completely unique church. He even went door to door collecting donations and moved into the basement so that he could work around the clock. It is an incredible representation of everything that made him such a unique talent - so much detail and symbolism that unites the natural and human worlds in a turmoil of colours, shapes and characters.

You have a whole hour to explore the church itself, from the detailed façade to the stained glass windows inside

Your tour also includes pre-booked access to one of the church towers, from where you will have incredible views over Barcelona and beyond.
