Description

Florence in 4 hours: Skip th Line David & Uffizi Express Tour. Your tour starts early, near the Accademia Gallery, where you will meet your group of maximum 24 fellow travellers and your experienced local guide. With one of the first tickets at the Accademia it goes straight in and you see Michelangelo's'David' before most visitors come. David is one of the largest single works in the world. As you stand under him, your guide will tell you the story of his creation, as well as the story of his creator, the lively genius, Michelangelo Buonarroti. You will also experience what makes the statue great in the eyes of so many people and how it has changed the way we see art and life in general. On your way out, you will linger with Michelangelo's unfinished'slaves' to see the signs of his artistic process and learn more about the struggle that has consumed much of his life.

From the Accademia it is only a 15-minute walk to the Uffizi Gallery, but you will pack many sights in a small city stroll. In first place is Piazza del Duomo. Here you stand in the shadow of one of the largest domes in the world and experience how the colossal church was designed and built by a group of Renaissance geniuses who were as controversial as they were visionary. You will also see the famous Baptistery doors of Florence, cast in bronze by Lorenzo Ghiberti and admired so much by Michelangelo, that he called them the "gates of paradise". You will also see Palazzo Vecchio, one of the main palaces of the powerful Medici family, whose money was one of the driving forces behind the Renaissance, and the open-air sculpture gallery in Palazzo della Signoria.

Finally, visit the Uffizi Gallery, which houses the world's largest collection of Renaissance paintings. It is also one of the most overwhelming collections in the world, often suffocating visitors with artistic fatigue. Don't worry, our guides have studied the collection for years and have compiled a selection of the museum's most important, interesting and beautiful paintings.

The works you visit are arranged in chronological order, making your visit a crash course in the development of Western art, including lesser-known works by artists such as Duccio and Giotto and true classics by artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael and da Vinci. When you are finished, you will not only have seen an art museum, but also a better understanding of European art.

After the tour ends shortly before lunch, your guide will be happy to advise you where to eat and what to see if you want to continue your search. Florence is a small city full of attractions, so now that you have seen the two big ones, you can concentrate on delving deeper into the history, culture and cuisine of this Italian jewel.
