Description

Discover Rostock in a red double-decker and accompanied by a competent guide!

Every Sunday you get the opportunity to explore the Rostock overseas port up close. In the Middle Ages, the port of Rostock was one of the most important transhipment points on the Baltic Sea. With a total turnover of 26.2 million tons (2014), it is now the fourth largest German port after Hamburg, Bremen/Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven. Due to its favourable location on the Unterwarnow, the harbour still offers the best nautical conditions today. With a length of 3.6 nautical miles and a depth of 14.5 meters, the Warnow has an uncomplicated access. The port can accommodate ships up to 300 metres long, 45 metres wide and 13 metres deep.

With an area of around 750 hectares, Rostock has one of the largest German Baltic Sea ports and an internationally important transhipment centre for general cargo, as well as facilities for coal, grain, cement or fertilizers and a modern oil port. More than 11 kilometres of quay facilities offer space for 47 moorings. It is also the only German deep-water and universal port and has been integrated into the Trans-European Transport Network (core network). Furthermore, with 2.2 million passengers, the Rostock overseas port is currently the largest ferry passenger port with several scheduled connections to Northern Europe.

Discover the history and the special features of this unique harbour and have a close look at the impressive ships. Our guides will tell you the big and small secrets, stories and myths of the harbour - no sailor's yarn guaranteed.

We invite you to a unique round trip through the Rostock overseas port. The tour takes about 1.5 hours. Enjoy nautical flair and let yourself be carried away into the world of sailors.
