Your experience

Highlights

  • 12 delicious tastings of food and drinks
  • Walk through the labyrinth of Old Delhi
  • Visit to a 24-hour Sikh kitchen, which feeds more than 30,000 people daily

Description

The tour starts at 12 noon outside Chandni Chowk Metro Gate 5, where you will be welcomed by your foodie guide. One should not do anything without blessing, so the first stop in a Hindu temple is the right time for the day. Begin your culinary journey with a small bowl of soaked vadas covered with creamy yogurt and coated with pomegranate seeds, something you won't see in any Indian snack bar at home

During a walk with your guide he will tell you about local life and give you an insight into the foodie scene in Old Delhi. In quick succession you grab a clay cup with a sweet, frothy mass before you work your way over the finest jalebi in India. While you rest your food, you will go to a huge Sikh temple and take a tour of its 24-hour kitchen, which feeds over 30,000 Delhites from all walks of life every day. Try making chapattis and stirring huge pots big enough to feed an army

Now it is time to jump into the labyrinth of Old Delhi. Your guide will take you on a walk through the narrow streets, carefully passing by cows, bicycle rickshaws and small traders. They stop to taste delicacies such as pani puris, delicious pakoras and stuffed parathas from a small village that has been producing them for almost a century. If you travel in winter, you might even try a Delhi specialty - a white mousse-like dish covered with saffron and nuts, often described as fluffy as a cloud

Your guide will lead you up the stairs to a secret little restaurant that has no sign outside to try one of the best masala curries in town before being washed down with a masala lime soda nearby. Walk further through the winding alleys until you reach the fragrant spice market. After a walk and a chat about the spices and herbs used in Indian cuisine, take a few secret steps up to a beautiful roof overlooking the spice market and the rest of Delhi. Take time to relax, take pictures and drink tea, which is brought to the roof by a local chai wallah

Relaxed, you will start the last stage, where you will taste several desserts, including a carrot halva and a traditional Mughal dish made with vermicelli pasta covered with a creamy layer of nuts. On the way back to the Chandni Chowk Metro your guide will have a paan made - a beta leaf filled with dried fruits, syrups and other good things. The perfect end to your foodie adventure in Delhi
