Art is intimidating and few art museums are more impressive than Italy's greatest masterpiece: Florence's Uffizi Gallery. Our Uffizi Gallery Tour is customized for you to explore and discover the breathtaking, historic world of Renaissance art. Whether you are an experienced art lover or an amateur it doesn't matter.
The tour is, like that of the museum, chronological, so that after skipping the (always long) queues, you will be introduced by your experienced English-speaking guide to the masterpieces of the early Renaissance by Cimabue, Duccio and Giotto. Through their pictures, you learn to distinguish the styles and techniques that have triggered a revolution in the visual arts.
These are followed by classics of the High Renaissance such as Botticelli's "Primavera" and "Birth of Venus". You will see the progress of artistic techniques and enjoy the explosion of colour and perspective. But it's not all art theory. You will learn about the incredible personalities and bitter rivalries of some of those day's greatest stars such as Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.
Finally, see the artistic heritage of the Renaissance in works by later masters such as Titian and Caravaggio. Once you've seen what came before, you can see their pictures in a whole new light!
Your next stop is Palazzo Vechio. For centuries this was the heart of art and government in Florence, so important that both Michelangelo and DaVinci were engaged in mural painting. Your tour includes the incredibly impressive Hall of the 500 and an introduction to the eventful history of Florence. You will hear how and why the Medici family left this majestic fortress by building the Vasari Corridor through the Uffizi Gallery to their new home in Palazzo Pitti.
This is more than just a tour, it is a journey through time that will make you appreciate everything that was necessary to bring the visual arts from the dark age into the modern world.
In a private group of 14 people or less, you will have special access to your English speaking guide. With plenty of time to ask all the questions you don't find in books, this will immerse you perfectly into the fascinating world of art history.
