Description

If you only have one day to visit all the top attractions in Florence, this tour is for you. Accompanied by one of the best guides in town, you will see everything you should have seen of Florence.

Start your day with the most famous marble sculpture in history - Michelangelo's David. You pass the long queues in the Accademia Gallery and can directly admire the master class of sculpture. You think you know it because you've seen it a thousand times in pictures? Think again: David has secrets that you can only understand when you see him in person and accompanied by one of our experienced English speaking guides. You will also see Michelangelo's unfinished 'slaves' and, with the help of your guide, gain new insights into his tortured artistic process

We continue on to another stone structure that has changed world history - Florence Duomo. As you admire the tower from the outside and inside (by saving yourself the insanely long queue again), you will hear the story of how its architect Brunelleschi, in order to build it, reclaimed lost knowledge and expanded the realm of what was considered humanly possible.

After a brief stop at the doors of the Baptistery to admire the masterpieces of the Ghiberti (whom Brunelleschi was insanely jealous of), you will immerse yourself in the beautiful streets of Florence to learn about the city's rich history. From the sculpture gallery in Piazza della Signoria to the figures carved on the walls of the church of Orsanmichele, the history of Florence will bring to life a sculpture and a building at a time

After a two-hour lunch break (not included in the price, but your guide will show you the best places to eat) you will meet again at the gates of the Uffizi Gallery, Italy's most popular art museum and one of the largest art collections in the world

Your route will be chronological, like the museum's. After passing the queues, your expert will introduce you to the early Renaissance masterpieces of Cimabue, Duccio and Giotto. Through her paintings, you will learn to distinguish the styles and techniques that triggered a revolution in the visual arts

Classics of the High Renaissance such as Botticelli's "Primavera" and "Birth of Venus" followed. You will see the progress of artistic techniques and enjoy the explosion of colour and perspective. But it's not all art theory. You will learn about the incredible personalities and bitter rivalries of some of the greatest stars of the day, such as Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci

Finally, you will see the artistic heritage of the Renaissance in works by later masters such as Titian and Caravaggio. When you have seen what came before you, you can see her pictures in a completely new light!

This is more than just a tour, it is a journey through time that will make you appreciate everything that was necessary to bring the visual arts from the dark ages to the modern world. In a private group of 20 people or less, you will have unparalleled access to your expert, who will be happy to answer all your questions in English. With enough time to ask all the questions that you don't find in books, this is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Renaissance art.
