See the important sights of Florence in one day. Your guide will show you beautiful corners of the city and take you to the Accademia Gallery and the Cathedral.
Visit Florence’s world-famous cathedral; the Duomo di Firenze, designed by Brunelleschi, and stop by the Baptistry for a peek at Ghiberti’s golden ‘Gates of Paradise’.
During a guided walking tour of the city, you’ll see Florence’s most iconic sites like the Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza della Signoria, and the Ponte Vecchio bridge.
Learn the stories behind the incredible facades of the Palazzo Vecchio and the Orsanmichele Church with guidance from an expert, English-speaking local.
With a small group of 15 people or fewer your experience will be relaxed and contact to your guide easy.
We begin at the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's 'David' and his partially completed 'Slaves' for a unique insight into how he transformed the rugged rock into the beautiful, lifelike figures of his sculptures. You will also hear stories of Leonardo Da Vinci and the powerful Medici family, whose patronage made Florence one of the hotbeds of the Renaissance art world.
Next we visit Florence Cathedral to admire the painted interior of Brunelleschi's famous dome and hear the story of how he had to relearn lost architectural knowledge to design and build it. We will also stop at the Baptistry to admire the breathtaking golden 'Gates of Paradise' and learn about the history of the predatory competition that produced them.
After the Cathedral, we will take a walk to see some of Florence's sights, including the titanic Palazzo Vecchio, the statues of the church of Orsanmichele, Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza della Signoria, the Porcellino pig (rub its nose for luck!) and of course Italy's most picturesque bridge, the Ponte Vecchio.
As you walk, the places are brought to life with the stories told by your experienced English-speaking guide. In a private group of 15 people or less you have enough time to ask questions and get to know the incredible history of this unforgettable city from the ground up.
Tips for guides are welcome, but never obligatory.
Please note that the meeting time is 15 minutes before the start of the tour. No refunds or re-booking in case of late arrival or non-appearance after the start or departure of the tour.
We inform our clients that the Cathedral of Florence must be closed during special celebrations, including the Easter celebrations. If this happens during your visit, we will take an alternative route that includes and explains the cathedral from the outside and additional highlights of the city centre. We cannot give refunds or discounts.
Please remember that the cathedral is a sacred place and the clothes must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to wear clothes that cover at least their shoulders and knees. Walks of Italy cannot be held responsible for refusing entry because of inappropriate clothing.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate guests with reduced mobility, wheelchairs or prams on this tour.
Comfortable hiking boots recommended.
In some cases it is not possible to enter the cathedral of Florence due to the long queues. At these times your guide will give you an outside explanation and give you the opportunity to visit it independently in your free time, if you wish.
Please note that guests can only carry small handbags inside the Accademia. Larger backpacks and big pointy umbrellas are not allowed. Please also note there is no cloakroom inside the Accademia Gallery.
