Marvel at the history and splendour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site
Visit the picturesque Palácio Nacional da Pena, once a monastery before it was transformed into a private palace by King Ferdinand II. The adjacent park is a real feast for the eyes and will delight you with exotic plants and other secret treasures.
King Ferdinand threw all restraint overboard and over the years created a true fairy-tale fortress that captivates visitors as the whole world. As he could not decide on a style, you can expect a wonderful mix of Romanticism, Renaissance, Manuela and Moors in bright colours - a real delicacy for architecture lovers.
Stroll through the gardens, which use the naturally humid climate of the region and offer a home to over 500 tree species from all corners of the world. Escape from everyday life and enjoy the breathtaking views over the Sintra region, the west coast and the city of Lisbon.
Please note that the date stated on the ticket isn't the date of your visit.
The palace is wheelchair accessible; there is a ramp leading up to the Palace entrance available (assistance necessary to use it as it is long and steep). Accessible paid transfer running every 15 min between the park entrance and the palace.
Due to ongoing restoration works, the Chambers of King Carlos I, the Smoking Room, Triton's Terrace and the Queen's Terrace currently have limited access and are partly covered by scaffolding.
