The collection of this museum includes four Michelangelos and Donatello's famous bronze David, a beautiful work that depicts him as a small (and slightly effeminate) boy, remotely different from Michelangelo's treatment of the same theme.
Next to the Michelangelo's and Donatello's David, you will find sculptures by Benvenuto Cellini, Luca della Robbia and Verrocchio. They have lured the crowds to this breathtaking building since the 13th century. There are also works of art by other lesser known artists, but they are no less enchanting.
In a room dedicated exclusively to Michelangelo, Bacchus stands naked and proud in the centre, surrounded by the artist's first sculptures. Watch the Tondo Pitti and the portrait of Brutus. Don't you feel more cultivated already?
This building has as impressive a history as the works it contains. In the 18th century, fires, executions and sieges occurred within its walls when it served as a huge prison. Today it houses the Grand Ducal collections, Gothic crafts and, in the 14th century hall, Donatello's early marble works. You will also be impressed by Roman and Byzantine ivory, Renaissance jewellery and busts of Florentine personalities.
The Bargello has many names, so that it can be called Palazzo del Bargello, Museo Nazionale del Bargello or Palazzo del Popolo (Palace of the People). No matter what it is called, this is a Florentine highlight that your inner artist must not miss.
Young people under the age of 18 receive a free admission ticket, which can be picked up at the ticket counter. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.
You will receive a second confirmation as soon as the booking is binding. This will be sent by email (within 1-2 working days). The second email contains your ticket, which does not need to be printed, but can be conveniently presented on your smartphone or tablet.
