Brasov is one of the oldest cities in Transylvania, built almost 800 years ago by the Saxons. This was sent on the part of Transylvania by the Hungarian king and the German emperor to stop the invasions of the barbarians in Europe. Brasov, the crown city, changed its name several times until 1960. Voted Romania's most beautiful city for the tenth time in a row, Brasov is full of history and great places not to be missed by anyone travelling in Transylvania. It was Romania's first large cosmopolitan city with thousands of people from all over the world living together. Saxon-Germans, Hungarians, Romanians, Italians, Bulgarians, Mongols, Turks, Jews etc. Every ethnic group has had its own place of worship built here over the last 650 years: St. Nicholas Cathedral for Orthodox Romanians, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral for Catholic Hungarians, Black Church for Protestant Germans, Jewish Synagogue and much more.
