Take a half-day sightseeing tour through Muscat and discover the most important highlights of this Arab city.
First, visit the Sultan Qaboos Grande Mosque with its five minarets representing the five pillars of Islam, the main minaret being more than 90 meters high. Built at the request of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Grande Mosque houses a library and a centre for religious education.
Make a photo stop at the new landmark of Muskat, the Royal Opera House of Oman. The building was inaugurated in 2011. If desired, you can also visit the opera house from the inside (at an extra charge).
From there you will head to the traditional souk in Muttrah, one of the oldest preserved markets in Oman. Admire the abundance of gold and silver jewellery, woodcarvings, ornaments and spices. Afterwards you will get to know the National Museum, which houses an impressive selection of historical Omani treasures.
Finally you stroll through the old town and walk around Al Al Alam Palace and the 16th century fortresses Jalali and Mirani.
Please note: In order to visit the mosque, you must cover your arms and legs. Ladies have to wear a scarf.
The Grand Mosque is closed on Friday.
