Description

Would you like to know what royal hygiene was like in the 16th century? Find out at Ambras Castle! It gives you the opportunity to discover the only preserved bathing complex from this period. Visit several amazing art collections, the lavishly decorated Spanish Hall and go back to Innsbruck's imperial past.

At 587 metres above sea level on the hills above 800-year-old Innsbruck, Ambras Castle is enthroned - a homage to Innsbruck's imperial history and the legacy of one of the greatest art collectors of Habsburg, Archduke Ferdinand II. It is also the oldest museum in the world!

Enter the inner courtyard of the Upper Castle without queuing, where you can see frescoes depicting the deeds of heroes and heroines. Then enjoy the charm of the St. Nicholas Chapel, decorated with 14th century embroidery.

Also visit the Armory, the Art and Curiosity Chamber in the lower castle and don't miss the stucco work in the Spanish Hall, which depicts the first 12 Roman emperors from Caesar to Domitian.
