The castle is enthroned on 587 metres above sea level on the hills above 800 years old Innsbruck. It is a tribute to the imperial history of Innsbruck and the heritage of Archduke Ferdinand II, one of the greatest art collectors of Habsburg. It is also the oldest museum in the world!
Enter the inner courtyard of the Upper Castle without queuing and see the frescoes with the deeds of heroes and heroines. Then enjoy the charm of the Chapel of St. Nicholas, decorated with 14th century embroidery.
In the lower castle, visit the Waffenkammer (armoury), the Art and Curiosity Chamber and don't miss the stuccoes in the Spanish Hall, which represent the first 12 Roman emperors from Caesar to Domitian.
Most parts of the castle are wheelchair accessible.
