Get close to the "burning mountain" Yanar Dag
Discover the most fascinating places of the Absheron peninsula and Gobustan on a private tour!
The tour starts at 10:00 am. At the beginning you drive to the mud volcanoes, where you will stay for 30min. The journey continues in the direction of the Qobustan Museum.
This is followed by a visit to Gobustan National Park, where you can admire petroglyphs (images created by removing a part of a rock surface by scratching, picking, carving or grinding as a form of rock art).
Then you enter the Bibi-Heybat Mosque, a historical mosque in Baku. The existing structure, built in the 1990s, is a replica of the 13th century mosque of the same name, which today includes the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of Muhammad). Today it is the spiritual center for the Muslims of the region and one of the most important monuments of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan.
Drive to Ateshgah, where the Fire Temple is located only 30 km from the centre of Baku in the suburb of Surakhany. This area is known for the unique natural phenomenon of burning natural gas outlets (underground gas that comes to the surface and comes into contact with oxygen and lights up).
Yanar Dagh (Burning Mountain) is a natural gas fire that burns continuously on a hill on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. Flames radiate into the air from a thin, porous layer of sandstone and act as a radiant sparkle on the mountain surface. The story of Yanar Dag is mysterious, but a local legend says that a shepherd once accidentally lit a fire there and the hill has been burning ever since.
At the end you finish your tour with an excursion to the Heydar Aliyev Center.
