Your discovery tour begins not far from Madrid's stunning Royal Palace, where you will meet your guide in the beautiful Plaza Oriente. Enter the palace a full hour before the general public and explore opulent interiors decorated with riches of the Spanish conquest of America, decorated with paintings of Caravaggio, Goya, Velázquez and others.
Off the beaten track, you'll head to the Barrio de la Morería, where the city's Muslim roots can still be seen today, and end up in one of the city's largest food markets, the Mercado de la Cebada. Get a brief introduction to Spanish food culture and taste wine, olive oil and small tapas.
Stroll through the medieval alleys in the centre of Madrid and learn how the city became the centre of Catholic power in Europe. On your way there, stop at the stunning Plaza Mayor, where heretics were once burned at the stake.
