Palazzo Venezia has a unique collection of applied art, from the early Christian period to the Renaissance. It is also a palace (and former home of the popes!), so lush decoration and breathtaking Catholic design await you amidst the countless paintings, tapestries, sculptures, ceramics and more. It is the dream of an art historian.
Before it was the Palazzo we know and love, this magnificent building was used as a home for the cardinals of the Church of San Marco. Several extensions later Pope Pius IV handed it over to the Venetian Embassy in 1654 as a sign of good will.
Today the "Palace of Venice" is one of the largest museums in the Italian capital, with an art collection dating back thousands of years. In the main hall there are sculptures recovered from the original building. In the following rooms you will be guided through the history of Italian art, from old portraits to the impossibly detailed frescoes of the Renaissance.
Of course you can also enjoy the building itself and admire a stunning design that has gone through some of the most turbulent periods in Italian history. It also has an enchanting walled garden and excellent views of Piazza Venezia and beyond.
