Description

More than 1.5 million people have found their peace at the moving Glasnevin cemetery. A General History Tour takes you deep into Dublin's past, 100 years after the Easter Rising. Also visit the graves of Irish heroes and learn about the importance of the symbolism and architecture of the cemetery on the Dead Interesting Tour.

Choose one of these hot, historic tours and add an interesting museum visit. It should also be clear that it would be a mistake to leave Dublin without visiting Glasnevin.

Dead interesting tour
This brand new tour of Glasnevin Cemetery promises a great overview of the diverse sculpture, symbolism and architecture of the cemetery. Find out which sports heroes are resting here, learn more about horticulture and the natural life that thrives under the dead

General history
Listen to your guide tell stories of colourful souls who have shaped Irish history. Ulster Covenant, The First World War, The Easter Rising and The War of Independence are all "excavated" and accompanied by pleasant historical anecdotes. You will also see the graves of Irish heroes such as Eamon DeValera, Michael Collins, Countess Markievicz and others.

Glasnevin Cemetery Museum
Enter this award-winning museum, the first cemetery museum in the world. Exhibitions cover the history of the cemetery, funeral monuments and there is even an impressive touch screen table with 200 life stories of important Irish personalities spanning almost 200 years.

The O'Connell Tower (separate ticket required, available on site)
For the first time in over 45 years you can climb O'Connell Tower, Ireland's highest circular tower. After an extensive restoration programme, the staircase in the tower is now accessible, complete with an exhibition about the legendary figure himself and the fascinating history of the tower. At the top you will enjoy a panoramic view over the extensive cemetery with the cities of Dublin and Wicklow and the Irish Sea as a background.
