The Palace of Holyroodhouse dates back to 1128, when it was still an Augustinian abbey. Today it is the home of Her Majesty the Queen, who, together with the Duke of Edinburgh, welcomes around 8,000 specially invited guests during 'Royal Week' from late June to early July.
