Description

Any aspiring poet will know you need a place to inspire you to create your genius, and that's why Sir Walter Scott bought Abbotsford House in the Scottish Borders almost 200 years ago. Learn more about his life as you explore this stunning villa and its gardens!

Discover a wealth of objects and inspiring artifacts in this amazing house, many of which can be found in Scott's greatest poems and novels.

Learn more about his life on the banks of the river Tweed and the many achievements of the playwright, writer, poet and judge.

The beautiful garden looks as if it has been created directly from one of Scott's historical romances, but it has been designed with the advice of artists, architects and friends.

Other highlights include Scott's Juliette balcony in front of his bedroom window and the Rapunzel Tower overlooking the River Tweed.

Maybe you'll write a pastoral poem yourself once you've been here.
