Get to know the popular Güell Park, which has over 100 years of history.
The origin of this park goes back to the year 1900. When Barcelona was a modern and cosmopolitan metropolis, Ildefons Cerdà, an engineer, was intensively involved with the difficulties of modern urban growth. Barcelona expanded very rapidly in the second half of the 19th century. Its central area began to develop as a large bourgeois centre. The 1888 World Exhibition promoted the search for a new artistic language and urban representation.
The main architectural feature of the park is based on Art Nouveau, a form of art that began to spread from Glasgow to Brussels and then Barcelona, reclaiming earlier building techniques such as the Catalan vault (or Timbrel Vault) and old craft styles, while at the same time being interested in the expressive potential of iron.
