Your experience

Highlights

  • Experience Rome off the beaten track
  • Stroll through Rome in a small group and immerse yourself in history
  • Marvel at both well-known and less well-known obelisks and the adjacent sights

Description

Rome is the city with the largest number of obelisks worldwide. During this four-hour walk you will discover Rome off the beaten track. Visit the most important obelisks of the Eternal City and search for the differences between the Egyptian obelisks and their Roman copies.

You will find obelisks at the main tourist attractions, but they are more than just decorative accessories. As symbols of the great urban planning that began at the end of the XVI century, they tell you the story of the transformation of Rome - from the medieval city to the modern cradle of Baroque art.

Your guide will introduce you to the obelisks of San Giovanni in Laterano and Santa Maria Maggiore, both of which stand in front of two imposing and world-famous churches. Then head for the obelisks in the main squares of Rome: Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Navona and Piazza Rotonda, right in front of the Pantheon. Your tour ends at St. Peter's Square, where you can admire the obelisk and discover the ancient legend behind its position in the middle of the square
