Admire the multitude of golden stumbling blocks and their history behind them
The commemorative bike tour starts in front of the modern station building in Klagenfurt. From here you follow the trail of human destinies right through the city centre of Klagenfurt and into some peripheral districts to buildings, squares and memorial sites, where these people lived and worked last. The German artist Gunter Demnig began in 1992 to lay the so-called "Stumbling Stones" in various cities throughout Europe in order to commemorate the numerous victims of the National Socialist regime with the engraved names and brief dates of their lives. In the meantime, more than 70,000 golden stones have been laid all over Europe and more are being laid every year. In Klagenfurt you will visit a few of the 30 stumbling blocks and listen to the moving life stories.
