You will experience a unique excursion into the nature, completely off the tourist paths, and get to know the last untouched rainforest in Sri Lanka.
Experience the Sinharaja rainforest, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Learn more about rubber plantations and factories and visit one of the oldest tea factories in Sri Lanka
You can admire the Pahiyangala rock caves
At 8.30 am you will be picked up at your hotel. On the way to the rainforest, you will have a stopover to marvel at the extensive rubber plantations and see how latex, the raw material of natural rubber, is extracted by "tapping" the trees. You will then visit the Rubber Research Institute in Agalawatta and gain an insight into the processing of natural rubber.
Then we continue to Pahiyangala, to the Fa Hien rock cave. Archaeologists have found the skeleton of the 37,000-year-old Balangoda Homo Sapiens, the oldest of the South Asian subcotinents.
Finally you will have dinner and spend the night at the Lakmini Luxury Lodge.
Before sunrise you start to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, the last still completely untouched rain forest on Sri Lanka and a world natural heritage site. At first glance, a trip to the tropical rainforest doesn't seem very tempting - an almost murderously high humidity, impenetrable green, countless leeches - and yet a trip to the green hell is worth it! The biodiversity is immense: the original tropical forest is home to over 200 different tree species, up to 60 metres high, from which you can hear the chirping, chirping and roaring of countless birds, insects and monkeys. During a hike of about 4 hours you will experience this idyllic jungle up close!
On the way back to your beach hotel we stop at one of Sri Lanka's oldest and best tea factories, the "Ceciliyan Tea Factory" in Kalawana.
Here you will get interesting insights into the production process and of course you can taste a cup of the delicious Ceylon Tea.
Just in time for dinner you will be back at your hotel.
