From our office you can go directly to the San Pedro Telmo Antiques Fair. Since 1970, the fair has taken place every Sunday in Plaza Dorrego and Defensa Street, which becomes a pedestrian precinct especially for this day. Around 10,000 people, many of whom are tourists from all over the world, visit the 270 stands of this famous fair every Sunday. You can find almost everything from antique furniture to traditional Argentine handicrafts, antiques, clothing and great leather goods. Enjoy the Tango Orchestra with its dancers, living statues and other street artists that make this fair a great place. You will also visit the "Mercado de San Telmo" (Market of San Telmo), ideal for those who want to buy souvenirs and visit unique shops.
After two hours of enjoying the charm of the San Telmo Antiques Fair, you will travel to the southwestern part of the city where the Mataderos Fair began 30 years ago and still functions successfully as a festival of "gaucho culture". It has 3 basic areas that are always present, along with a court, Traditional Crafts, Art Festivals and Gaucho Skills. Every Sunday various activities such as presentations, exhibitions and workshops take place. Incredible craftsmen have over 300 stands at the fair and sell traditional "gaucho" crafts such as mates, ponchos, blankets, musical instruments, leather goods and silver jewellery.
You will have some time to visit the "Museo Criollo de los Corrales". This rural style museum gives us an idea of how the gauchos live in the pampas. You can discover clothes, tools and other everyday objects. It will also show you how the livestock industry developed in Argentina until it became one of the most important exporters and one of the world's leading companies in the meat industry. You will see weapons, knives, carriages, animals and amazing paintings.
The tour includes a great lunch in this place full of delicious food! Both handicrafts and regional foods (jams, liqueurs, cheeses and "alfajores") can be bought at better prices than in the city's tourist shops.
The fair is a colourful mixture of traditions, handicrafts, music, dance and art. Lectures, exhibitions, traditional games for children and adults also take place here. At the Mataderos Fair, you can watch the locals and visitors folk dancing, accompanied by live musicians.
At about 17 o'clock your great tour ends.
