Sintra is an enchanting landscape with a bunch of attractions, with numerous palaces and palatial mansions nestled in the middle of a densely wooded, green mountain range that stretches until the Atlantic. The coastline is also fabulous, with beautiful beaches and breathtaking viewpoints. You can decide if you would rather visit one or two monuments, or just cross the whole area and end on one of the palaces.
What to visit in Sintra, among others: - Pena Palace and Park: A fairytale castle in a beautiful garden, the absolute highlight of Sintra. A guided tour is possible as far a parking space can be found (difficult in high season). - Moorish castle: A real fortress from the early Middle Ages with breathtaking views. Excellent for a walk without needing a guide. - Sintra National Palace: A stunning palace in the middle of the historic city center, famous for its conical chimneys. - Quinta da Regaleira: esoterically inspired palace and gardens, with symbologies linked to the Freemasons and the Templar Knights. - Monserrate Palace and gardens: an exuberant palace with a lush garden, a bit distant from the center, but in the middle of the Natural Park of Sintra. - Sintras coast has several beautiful beaches and amazing viewpoints the should not be missed (Praia da Adraga, Azenhas do Mar, Cabo da Roca, Praia da Ursa, etc.).
A guided tour in the monuments cannot always be guaranteed as there is often no parking available for the vehicle, so the guide would pick you up after the visit.
Please note that Sintra has a microclimate and is therefore often colder and cloudier than Lisbon, please bring a jacket.
