Good. Tour company location was a bit a far out of town and tour was a bit rushed as other the ride into the mitte took so long

We thoroughly enjoyed our time and tour with Katryn. We were a small group of4, which was perfect, allowing us to move about with more ease and less hassle, vs a large group. Katryn was personable and quite knowledgeable, and the information was infused with personal perspective and experience that made it very enjoyable and interactive!

Our group was 4 total; perfekt! In English. Potpourri was our choice of tours, so as to have a personal experience with areas less commonly traveled or tourist "inflamed." We were very pleased with this. What really made it great was our guide, Katrin; she was knowledgeable and organized, able to communicate a ton of information in a very personal way.

The guide showed interesting parts of Berlin you won't find in the travelguides. She made it personal with memories of the GDR en die wende. It was was a good day.

Good tour. The guide originated from East Germany, but conducted the tour in English, hats off to her! There were some really interesting parts to the tour. Lots of information about different building styles from various time periods, which got a little tiresome, as I'd have liked more info on the actual history of Berlin, rather than the buildings, but all in all a good 4 hour tour. Thank you

Description

Short-time stay in Berlin and seen all 'tourist attractions'? Then this tour is for you!

The buildings, places and lakes which we will see on this tour are not as famous as 'Reichstag and friends', but this tour is as interesting as any other.

This tour accommodates the wish of many Berlin visitors, who are only in town for a short time, have already seen the main attractions but would still like to see a lot more of the city.

On the Potpourri Tour we are going to pass through five very different Berlin boroughs. From the housing blocks at Prenzlauer Berg, via the Plattenbauten (a specific 'socialist' type of house building) in Hohenschönhausen, this tour takes us to the lakes of Weißensee.

We will pass many worthwhile sites, which are not as famous as the Reichstag etc., but nevertheless present some noteworthy parts of Berlin history. The first stop is the Zeiss Planetarium, and via myriad small stops we will get to the huge area of the former livestock and slaughterhouse buildings, where modern buildings mix with old edifices.

Probably the best-known stop on this tour is the former Stasi building, stretching over several hectares, with the Stasi prison, where prisoners used to be kept under inhumane conditions. We are going to visit the Sportforum, where many German Olympic and world champions trained, e.g. the swimmer Franziska van Almsick. The ice hockey team Berliner Eisbären (Berlin Polar Bears) used to be based here before moving to the O2 World; and the GDR champion club BFC Dynamo has been based here since 1992.

On the way back, we are going to pass old breweries, some of which are still operating, and arrive at the lakes of Weißensee, where we are going to tell you about the area’s quite eventful past.

The last stop of this three-to four-hour tour is the cultural venue Brotfabrik.

Remarkable stops during this tour are:

• former border-crossing Bornholmerstr. / Place of Nov. 9th
• Zeiss-planetarium / Thaelmannpark
• Ernst-Thaelmann Memorial / 14/15 m / 50 tons
• Velodrom / built for Olympia 2000
• former slaughterhouses Berlin
• Sportforum Hoehenschoenhausen / trainingsfacilities for German top athletes
• Stasi-Prison Hohenschoenhausen
• Watertower and Mies van der Rohe (Architect) house / Oberlake / Orankelake
• Berlin oldest tramline / Weissenlake
• Municipal-Area Neu Weissensee
• Bethanien-Church ruins
• Tradesmen-Suburbia
