Your experience

Highlights

  • Experience Oslo as in the times of the Vikings
  • Visit the Viking ship museum
  • Visit the Huk beach

Description

Oslo has the richest history of marine life in Europe, from the Viking Age more than 1,000 years ago to the present day. Thanks to the cycle paths and remote forest roads, Oslo and the breathtaking fjord are best explored by bicycle. The Vikings and Beaches tour bypasses traffic, buses and crowds and lets you feel Oslo's connection to the sea

The two highlights of the tour are of course the Vikings and the beaches. Included in the tour price is a stop at the Viking Ship Museum, home to some of the best preserved Viking artifacts in the world, such as a 1,200 year old ship that was excavated on the Oslo Fjord. After you have learned more about the history of the Vikings, you can explore the Oslo Fjord on your own. With a short drive down to the beach you can overlook the waters once sailed by the Vikings.

Do not forget your swimming things and towels on a warm summer day. Surprisingly, Oslo has some of the warmest coastal waters in the world, along with the countries on the Mediterranean Sea. The lowest temperature is 20°C. The water is clean and clear and by stopping at Huk beach, with its sand, grassy hills and rough rocks, you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the city, the many islands on the coast and the hilly landscapes

On your way back to the city you take the fjord cycle path along the coast and can enjoy the ride without cars and traffic. The last stop is at the modern, redesigned Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen harbour, which is famous for its many museums, shops and fantastic views of Akershu's medieval castle.

You should have a good level of fitness, but you do not need any special cycling experience. Most of the time you ride on cycle paths, forest tracks, through parks and car-free zones. You can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and exciting stories offered on this tour
