Description

The Paris Aquarium (also known as Cinéaqua) is a world-class festival of the sea. It is one of the oldest aquariums in the world - it was built in 1867 - and has more than 10,000 creatures that call its depths home. With mermaid shows, a water cinema and a shark tank with the top predators, this is an incredible way to add a deep blue dimension to your trip to the centre of Paris.

The Paris Aquarium embodies the passion for scientific research of the late 19th century. Every major city had to have an aquarium, and as Europe's leading city lighting, Paris had to be the best. Decorated as if from Jules Vernes 20,000 miles under the sea, this special fish bowl is as rich in history as it is in aquatic life

10.000 fish swim in 4 million liters of water, with tanks in which aquatic life is absorbed from distant tropical locations and from the immediate vicinity. Indeed, the first section is full of carp, sturgeon and roach swimming in a reconstruction of the nearby Seine.

The reconstructed seas of Tahiti and New Caledonia teem with fish of all colors: angel, clown and triggerfish jockey for position, while jumping between rocks and corals. The scale is impressive; it is not surprising that this was once the largest aquarium in Europe.

But the show thieves are the sharks. Four species of these predators from the depths elicit squeaking sounds from the children again and again and all the others nervous laughter

The aquarium also has two large screens showing water documentaries, live feeding demonstrations and a touch tank where children can get their hands on slippery ornamental fish

At the end of your visit you will be immersed in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. The Eiffel Tower at your elbow, the Champs-Élysées at your back and the whole city at your fingertips. Let's go, there's more to discover.
